More than 500 scientists from 50 or more countries of the globe have come to India to participate in strategic talks aimed at framing policies intended at dissemination of scientific information to common public. The 11th International Conference on Public Communication of Science & Technology has begun under the aegis of National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology,Govt.of India from December 04 to December 11. The Convener Dr. Manoj Patairiya has informed that this International Conference is being held in three phases i.e. in Khajuraho, Delhi and Jaipur.The Inaugural Session of the conference(Pre Conference Seminar) is under session in Khajuraho and shall be concluded on December 05.The Main Session of the Conference will take place in New Delhi from December 06 to December 09.The Closing Session of the Conference(Post Conference)will be held in Jaipur from December 10 to December 11.
Dr. Patairiya has informed in a press briefing that Main Conference would be presided over by Shri Kapil Sibal ,Hon'ble Minister , Science & Technology,and the venue would be National Agricultural Science Complex,Pusa,New Delhi where our beloved former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will deliver the inaugural address. . The Key note address would be given by Dr. T.Ramasami,Secretary,
The conference being held for the first time in India is being attended by eminent science communicators, practitioners/analysts and scientists from world over engaged in the emerging field of science communication and public understanding of science.They will present their research findings apart from taking part in reflective sessions related with the burning issues at hand. The topics/themes like science communication in the present global scenario, balancing knowledge deficit and knowledge abundance,scientific literacy,developing scientific awareness among the common people,science communication through innovative science fiction and cultural constraints and democratic aspects associated with science communication would be discussed in a detailed manner in main and parallel scientific sessions .A discussion aimed at making science communication part of the university syllabus will also take place.The conference begins in Khajuraho with participants involved in discussion related with the theme of 10th Science Communication Congress "Towards A Scientifically Aware & Attitudinally Rational World".The Conference will come to have a glorious end with a workshop organised in Jaipur named "Bringing Scientists & Media Together For Better Science Communication".
During this conference a workshop named "25 Years Of Science Communication:The Way Forward" is also being organised on December 09 to mark the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Indian Science Writers' Association( ISWA).Jean-Marc Fleury of World Federation of Science Journalists(Canada) will preside over this workshop. Martin Bauer,London School of Economics ; Maria Ines ,University of Sao Paulo,Brazil ; Jan Rise,Sweden ; Bernard Schiele,University of Quebec,Canada and Bruce Lewenstein ,to name a few, are the eminent personalities who will participate in the various sessions organized in the Conference.Many eminent people from Indian Science Communication organizations , Media Study Centers and Indian Universities shall also participate in the Conference.
