Group Graduation
On the 19th of November 2015, the septuplets legally became adults as they turned 18. As high school graduation was fast approaching big decisions regarding each of their futures needed making. As many parents would relate, it seemed like only yesterday Kenny and Bobbi welcomed home their seven bundles of joy. Now they each were legally men and women.
On the eve of their high school graduation in May 2016, the septuplets were again thrown into the limelight. Bobbi said of the milestone, “It’s sad to see things end, but there will be lots of firsts coming.” Her words would ring true as each of the seven siblings would follow their own paths and take on life in different fields.
College
When news of the septuplets birth first broke out, there were several generous gifts the family received as noted earlier. One of these was a free college education at various universities for each of the seven siblings.
Missouri’s Hannibal-LeGrange University granted free tertiary educations to the teenagers, while the State of Iowa also offered scholarships to any state university of their choice.
Thankfully accepting full-ride scholarships, Natalie, Kelsey, Nathan, and Joel all chose to study at Hannibal-LaGrange University. Kenny Jr and Alexis meanwhile stayed close to home and attended Des Moines Area Community College. Nonetheless, one of the seven, Brandon, chose to travel down a totally different road.
Military Man
Brandon, unlike his siblings, decided to join the U.S. Army straight out of high school. Brandon had always held a fondness for anything military related. Though, none of his family would have guessed where his passion would lead him.
Following years of training and dedication, Brandon became a U.S. Army Ranger, making his entire family proud. Who would have ever guessed where the septuplets would end up when news of their birth was first announced.
Goals And Dreams
Today, the McCaugheys continue to make history with each passing year. Later this year, they will be the first surviving septuplets to reach age 20. Even though the septuplets will never be able to separate their unique legacy from themselves, it has never stopped them from becoming their individual selves.
The eldest of the seven, Kenny Jr. has already launched a carpentry business. Brandon recently married in July 2018. Alexis is currently following a career in early childhood education. While, Natalie and Kelsey are finishing their college degrees,
along with Nathan and Joel who are specializing in computer science.
So, how do the siblings feel now that they are headed in different directions?
Always Connected
Having spent the better part of the first two decades of their lives together and growing accustomed to a large family, many were curious as to how the siblings would feel about leaving each other. The answer to this question will surprise some.
Despite the septuplets admitting they would miss one another, they were equally excited about exploring their own life paths. The sisters McCaughey make it a point to meet often and the crew as a whole keep in contact regularly. Now, young adults, the super septuplets can always look back at their unique life.
Enjoyed Their Upbringing
The story of the McCaughey family made international headlines due to the septuplets record-breaking birth. Many were left speechless by the magnitude of the task at hand for the parents. The present 20-year-olds can only look back and be thankful for the life they’ve had.
Kenny Jr. said to Today, “You’re never alone. There’s always someone to talk to and hang out with. That’s what I think is the best.” Kelsey felt the same way, admitting, “I don’t think there’s a ‘worst’ part. I’ve enjoyed it all.” With the trials and tribulations, adulthood brings, many have wondered if the septuplets will also be at risk of multiple pregnancies.
Future Families
With the unique nature of their pregnancy and birth, many questions abounded regarding what would happen should the septuplets themselves have children. The short answer is that they don’t have a greater probability of having multiple childbirth.
The seven were conceived through fertility treatment rather than a genetic tendency. Parents, Kenny and Bobbi, had hoped one egg would be fertilized, instead, it ended up being seven. So, how are Kenny and Bobbi doing these days?
No Regrets
For Kenny and Bobbi, the dismay of first being told they were expecting septuplets has dissipated to leave the couple with eternal thankfulness. The McCaughey parents are these days staunchly against selective reduction and make public speaking appearances at pro-life events to discuss their experience.
All being said and done, the couple would not choose to have things differently at all. Bobbi says, “Well, come to our house, and tell me which four I shouldn’t have had!” With more time on their hands than ever before, the parents of the septuplets have a chance to pursue their own interests.
Their Own Callings
The septuplets aren’t the only ones following their individual life’s calling these days, as momma and pappa McCaughey finally have an empty nest of their own, free make their own plans after two decades.
Since the kids left home, Family patriarch Kenny finally bought himself a motorcycle and dreams of traveling the country with it. Even though the McCaughey parents are enjoying more free time these days, watching their children leave home wasn’t exactly easy.
Empty Nesters
For two decades, the McCaughey parents were acquainted with raising and catering to their eight children. With all of their children now having moved out, the couple from Iowa has again needed to acclimatize to their new lifestyle.
Kenny and Bobbi freely admit that life is certainly much easier now due to the reduced costs involved. Naturally, like every parent, they still share concerns for their children who are out into the world all on their own. So, what happened to their family home now that they are down to just two people?
Downsizing
Having been gifted their 5,500 ft² (511 m²) seven-bedroom, five-bathroom house from the Clark Company in 1997, the couple found their abode empty by February 2018. As such, the McCaughey parents decided to downsize.
Bobbi McCaughey expressed, “As our kids are leaving the nest, it seems to be the right time to start a new chapter.” Grateful for all kindness bestowed on them, the McCaughey wanted their family home to continue helping more people.
Giving Back
Announcing that the family had sold their home to the Iowa nonprofit Ruth Harbor which helps provide housing for young mothers with unplanned pregnancies, Bobbi stated, “We have been blessed to receive such a wonderful gift, and nothing would please us more than the idea of our home being used as a place of refuge to others in need.”
Kenny added, “It’s a pretty good size house that met our needs pretty well. We thought we would pass that down to someone else who could use it.” With new memories set to fill their once beloved family home, the McCaugheys will no doubt continue to attract attention with each additional milestone wherever the road ahead takes them.
